RapidLash Detailed Review (pic heavy)

October 27, 2010 2 comments

I’ve given it enough time to do its job so, as promised, I shall do a review on it.

This is readily available at Priceline stores and retails for $65 AUD.

Transparent serum with brush applicator

Directions:  pic taken straight from their website

  • Apply to lash roots, but not on the actual eyelids
(apparently it can cause the eyelids to become darker?)
  • Can be applied to upper and lower lashes, and also on the eyebrows too.
I only applied to upper lashes because my lower lashes are long enough IMO
  • Average time to see results is 6-8 weeks.

PROS

  • Despite the cons below, I will definitely repurchase and continue use
  • No irritations or inflammation.  Only stinging if I got it in my eye lol
  • One tube lasts nearly 2 months
  • Readily available in Australia
  • Cheaper alternative to stuff like Revitalash
  • Really works!  I started seeing results at week 4

CONS – MUST READ!!!

  • Needs dedication!  Don’t quit once your lashes start malting off.
  • There is at least a 2 week period where your eyelashes will MALT!!
    - Not entirely but noticeable.  It still looked alright after careful mascara application.
  • There is a constant cycle of shed->regrow->beautiful lashes->shed again
    - I think it’s a 6-7 week cycle? I feel that my lashes are shedding again at week 7
    - I’m not sure whether it would malt to the same extent though
    - You want to either stop using it while it’s really nice, or else you will have to keep using it while it’s shedding and regrowing.
  • That said – effect is not permanent.  But that’s a given.
    - Expecting these results to last is like dying your hair and expecting it to not grow out for the rest of your life – not happening.
  • I found it a bit hard to get to every lash with the brush applicator.
    - Solution was not to swipe across, but to dab and rotate the brush on the lashes instead.
  • It feels like it’s running out at week 4, but when I spin the applicator inside the tube there is still heaps.

Now for the piccies:

Before

I’m lucky to be born with decent eyelashes for an Asian, but my left eyelashes have always been problematic, a bit shorter, and messier, as you can see!

To top it off, my lashes mostly hide under my inward folding eyelids, so even if they are decent in length, it doesn’t show anyway =.=

See what I mean… stupid eyelids  =.=  I’ve posted this pic up before, but just to show again what my lashes looked like at the beginning of the year.

My eyelids have improved since then.  Yay!  There’s a reason for that – I explain it in the after pics below.

This pic was taken after my lash perm at Sunny Park.  My lashes were behaving extremely well for a few weeks.

_______________________________________________________________________

After

After 6-7 weeks of use, my eyelashes are sooooo much longer and fuller! Especially on the outer corners :)

My left eye became my better side.. LOL

Pic taken today (after 7 weeks)
pic quality is bad ><

Clearer pic, but with messier eyelashes (note its on the right side).. And I’m cross-eyed =.=”

I guess the comparisons with mascara is unfair as I used volume mascaras in the before pics, and Heroine Make’s Long & Curl in the after pictures.

TBH these pics don’t serve the product justice.  It looks so much better in real life than in these pictures >< I tried my best though!

So the reason my eyelids have changed:

My eyes are always swollen in the morning making my lids very unstable,
turning into a million half-folds, and staying that way for the whole day.
My solution is to tape my lids at night, and take it off in the morning after the swelling settles.
I’m not one of those girls that like to wear tape on her lids out, so the tape HAS to come off before I leave the house.
I started experimenting to see how big my lids could get without them collapsing on themselves once the tape comes off.
My current lids are probably as big as they will get.  And I’m not going to go under the knife!!!!
I think I am lucky though.  My lids seem to have become a lot less FATTY within the past year (you can see even from the first and last mascara pics),
which probably explains why this works for me – even though I will still have to stick with crappy lids for the rest of my life….

Haul post (long and pic heavy :))

October 19, 2010 5 comments

Firstly a shout out to Eric my brother-in-law who’s birthday is today – Happy Birthday!

This is rather belated as I purchased this over a month ago.  Just been too lazy!  My purchase was from Adambeauty.  I love Adambeauty ^^ The only thing I don’t love is that it doesn’t stock everything but you can’t ask for toooo much can you?

Kose’s Sekkisei sunscreen SPF 50+ PA+++ 60g

May I mention how pretty the bottle is? It’s a shimmery blue as opposed to the dark matte blue I originally thought :)

I haven’t tried this as I am still a long way from finishing my Allie one.  I am petrified of getting tanned, I am sick and tired of my damn freckles, and it’s approaching summer here in Brisbane too.

I shall be purchasing Palmers fade milk soon to attempt fading my freckles.  Review shall follow in the future after I buy and try.  If that fails.. I’m going to try Revitol.

This particular sunscreen has received great ratings in Jap mags, as well as online too.  I put off buying it because, well I don’t know.  I think I got sucked into free body spray in Allie’s promo set =.=

I imagine it will be similar to Allie with no white cast, great milky texture and good lasting ability :)

Skin79 The Oriental Gold BB Cream SPF 25 PA++ 40g

This BB cream was highly recommended by Eki.  It looked so nice I had to get it!

It claims to have whitening and wrinkle improvement.  It apparently contains “white tea, green tea and black tea” to “keep skin brighter and firmer”.

I avoided Skin79 BB creams for a long time because of its grey tinge, its reputation to not sink into the skin, and apparent dark shades.  This one had none of these!!

It comes with a blush/lip tint + mirror!  It actually works too :)  I was using this BB cream + blush in the pics in my previous post.

BB cream on left, bare skin on the right and blush/lip tint in the middle.  As you can see it’s a perfect colour match and the blush/lip tint gives a really nice fresh pinky tint to the skin.

Pros:

    • I used to love my The Skin Shop BB cream but this is my new favourite.
    • Don’t need a lot to get good coverage.  Finish is a smooth complexion.  Love!
    • Blush/lip tint is awesome
    • Does not irritate my skin at all
    • No heaviness

Cons:

    • Pump dispenser is sort of messy
    • Requires a fair few pumps before product comes out for the first time, after which it’s fine (don’t try taking the rubber stopper off!)
    • Only 40g :(
    • not a high SPF.  I prefer over SPF30 at least, but it’s alright.  I always use sunscreen beforehand anyway.
    • This can be good or bad but it leaves a “dewy” finish => I can’t stand it and I end up patting some powder on top of it because it’s too dewy for me.

Visee Blossom Eyes in Gr-4

The packaging is sooo pretty with the off white floral embossing.  I really wanted a neutral green palette and this did a great job!  The back of the packaging shows a how-to.

The applicator it comes with is quite disappointing TBH.  It doesn’t seem to pick up the product as well as the previous Blooming or Blackish Forming ranges.

The top two shades are cream, but feels dry almost like powder, much better than the yucky greasy stuff and no creasing with eye primer.  However, it takes a bit of layering for the colour to show up.

Bottom three are powder shades.

Pretty and shimmery neutrals ^^

Texture is silky with little to no fall outs.

Visee Blossom Eyes PU-2

Packaging is same as above.  The top cream shade looks purple but is actually brown, but lighter than that of GR-4′s.

For some reason I couldn’t get the lighting right so it’s a bit warmer but it’s still pretty close.

The medium purple is pretty light and gives the eye just a purple tint.

Texture again is silky.

One thing I love about both palettes is the darkest shades.  They are soooo pretty!  However, overall I have to say I am disappointed with this range.
I loved how it looked, but when applied to the eyes, it didnt’ really give me “wow” I was expecting… Maybe it’s the applicator’s fault… But nevertheless these are still great palettes for spring/summer since they are so fresh and neutral!  I love the green more than I do the purple :)

Coffret D’or C Curve Eyes in 07 Plum Wine

This is my first Coffret D’or E/S palette.  I was sucked into the beautiful plum shade and the highlighter since I had none XD

No more jewelled case, just big printing on a very slim case.

The case is so slim that it falls backward when the case is open, because the mirror is so big and weighs more than the shadows.
Despite that, it weights 3.9g so they aren’t really ripping us off :)

The applicators are really nice and picks the shadows up well.

The highlighter does a great job without looking OTT shimmery :)

I wanted this palette to give me a more smoky purple look, which it did successfully.

Texture is actually harder than most palettes I have.  Probably similar to T’estimo’s discontinued palettes – which figures since Coffret D’or was the replacement for T’estimo anyway.  Nevertheless, it glides on the eyes easily, and leaves a subtle shimmery finish.

And that ends my post :) Now it’s time for me to wash off my Coconut Hair soak :) I’ve left it on for way too long XD

Recent Happenings and Coconut Cream

October 12, 2010 Leave a comment

First of all I would like to make a note of my good friend Joey’s belated birthday party.  It was such a great night of catching up, heaps of fun, and also meeting some lovely people!

Stole a few pics from her blog also because she’s got awesome camera skills and equipment hehe

Who could resist smooching a gorgeous lady?

With Joey, her sister Joanne, and my new make up buddy Lidia!

Secondly I would like to introduce you to:

Most people would automatically think curry or cooking ingredient when they go to the supermarkets and see a can of coconut cream.

Well I’ve found a whole new way of using coconut cream, and I can say right now that most of you will be thinking to yourselves… WTF.

Oh how did the light coconut cream find its way into my stash.. I shall have to see whether it’s just as effective, but either way, it’s still more exi but luckily the cashier didn’t realise and neither did I AHAHA.  Trusty Woolworth’s Home Brand was on discount for 85c.  IGA was also selling Black & Gold for 85c too.

Okay cutting to the chase, I now use Coconut Cream as a hair treatment! Yeah yeah start the WTF’s..

I first got this idea from Jojoba from mymakeupreviews, and she considers this as her staple hair care item.

What you need:

  1. Coconut cream!  Or you can use coconut milk instead, except it would be runnier and messier ( not that cream is completely clean either)
  2. Shower cap!  These were really cheap for 10 pack from the $2 section of a Japanese grocery store a Southport Centro
  3. Any towel to help catch drips
  4. A good 2-3 hours of spare time

What you need to do:

  1. You can use the coconut milk/cream straight out of the can but it will be a bit runny.  Jojoba suggested to leave it in the fridge for a few days.
I found that 3 days is enough to make it really creamy, but I usually get impatient and take it out on day
  2. Added in:  I first rub some extra virgin olive oil through the tips for better results
  3. Rub the cream onto dirty unwashed hair.  I use the solid cream on my tips, and the runnier stuff through my roots.
It’s easier to part my hair into two sections rather than use the front to back method.
  4. Cover with shower cap.
  5. Optional: you can blow some hot air into the shower cap with hair dryer to get the process happening faster.  I do it to make myself feel better.
  6. Place towel on neck, or simply wrap the towel over the shower cap to catch drips
  7. Wait 1.5-2 hours depending how dry hair is
  8. Rinse thoroughly- my hair feels as though there is a film of oil even after rinsing thoroughly but make sure you rinse as much as you can out
  9. Follow with usual shampoo and conditioner

Pros:

  • Hair felt so much healthier straight after.  I couldn’t do any pics because it was too hard ><
  • Only slight smell of coconut after washing, not disgusting at all
  • Even with blow drying my hair doesn’t feel like straw anymore
  • The results last for at least a week.  I think that with continued use, the results would last longer and hair will become even healthier
  • SO economically friendly: 85c – $1.30 for a can.
One can lasts me 2 treatments at one treatment per week.  I just put the remainder in a cup and cover with glad wrap
  • Can be varied – some people add extra virgin olive oil, avocado and other stuff too – check up the Jojoba’s link to check out the comments

Cons:

  • Needs a lot of spare time in a day
  • I’ll need to stock up on shower caps too…
  • Not good for people who don’t like the smell of coconut, there is still a very very slight coconut scent after it’s washed off but doesn’t bother me
  • A bit messy?
  • Added in:  Still not moisturizing enough for my dead hair on its own

I think this is the best any hair treatment has worked so far, and for such a low price, I’m happy with it.. ehehe.. try it and tell me what your experiences are :)
