Hong Kong Goodies!

May 4, 2011 Leave a comment

My sis went to HK for a couple of weeks and I gave her a list of stuff to buy XD

She said that most of the stuff were very difficult to find, especially the Dolly Wink eyeshadows because they are such scary colours that no one would use AHAHAHA

I was unable to get the liquid eyeliner and mascara unfortunately, but… no worry I will own them one day buahaha

Forgot to put this in the above picture as well ><

I was most excited about Jill Stuart’s newest limited edition eyeshadow

102 Amazonite Dazzle

The design of the box and palette is sooo dreamy

The colours shout out secret garden to me, they are so different from the usual Jill Stuart colours!

I find the colours really complicated, I couldn’t really put a name to them ><

From left (my interpretation):

– Silver with a tinge of pink

– Moss green

– Blue grey which sports a green tinge due to the green shimmer

– Plummy brown with some hints of fine green shimmers

Those colours took me a long time to come up with, and I still don’t think it’s completely right….

So I this palette must be green themed XD  I love all the colours and it makes a very sweet smoky look.  Not the easiest colours to use, especially the plummy brown – it can end up looking super dirty.  However I did manage to wear all the colours today.  They are so fun to play with!

As usual, I find that using the jelly eye as base helps the colours turn out more vibrant.

The eyeshadow has the usual Jill Stuart scent, which I have grown to get used to.

I’m also really loving my new Koji Curving eyelash curler.

I was in need for a new eyelash curler because my 22R wasn’t really working for me anymore

I think the biggest difference with this one is that the Curving one is.. obviously much curvier lol

The curving eyelash curler is also wider, and the rubber has two ridges on either side where the curler clamps, rather than the one groove as most curlers have.

I think its curviness is really helping to deliver neatly curled stand up lashes 😀

I shall talk about Koji stuff and the rest in a later post 🙂

Packages with love and make up brush cleaning

April 17, 2011 Leave a comment

Ella dropped off this bag of goodies for me last night, she’s so nice!!!

She said that she had too much and wanted to pass them onto me, but… my gawd.. so much, and all of them were coincidentally things I’ve been wanting to try!

Serums, Skin food Omija Whitening set, sleeping masks, face masks, eye masks, eye cream, and even two pair of CK jeans that were too big for her.  Surprisingly they fit me.. and were actually a little loose too… I feel good XD AHAHAHA

Anyways thank you so much ^^ Going to cherish all of these!

I’ve been inspired by all these make up tool cleaning videos I’ve been seeing on youtube and I went on a make up tool cleaning spree at like.. 12am one night, and spent 2-3 hours on it… seriously late night lol

I am really lazy, and I just sit them on top of my box if I am just quick cleaning them.

Don’t do that if you are washing your brushes people…

Something different was a video by BeautyQQ.

She is so unique and creative, her ideas are always different.  This inspired me to clean even my sponge tip applicators – something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time but was worried they wouldn’t survive the cleaning process.

Couldn’t get all the colour out but they are pretty clean 🙂

I am reluctant to put these under the tap though, because I think it would really ruin the applicators.

Example of ruined sponge tip applicator.  This is an old Kate one.

From this cleaning experience, I really got to learn more about the different sponge tip applicators offered by various brands.

I found that the poorer quality sponge tips didn’t survive the cleaning process.

What I have found is that each brand rarely alternates sponge tip applicators and each brand has its own unique perks.

The best applicators I found were by Esprique, Lunasol, Coffret D’or and Visee.  The sponge part was dense, did not move around a lot on the plastic bit when wiping them, and were easiest to clean.

My experience is that, the best applicators must pass two tests.

  1. When you bend the sponge part, it shouldn’t feel like the sponge is moving too differently on the plastic bit inside.
  2. When you squeeze the sponge, it shouldn’t depress a lot.  It should feel quite springy.  Jill Stuart and some of Visee’s newer applicators were too squishy.

My favourite of them all is the one in the new Visee Glam Shade eyes.  I love how the bigger end is pointy as well!

I was worried that Lunasol’s applicators would crumble because I saw a few extra holes show up when cleaning it but it turned out alright.

Kate’s sponge tip applicators apply well, but also crumbled the most!! I don’t know why this is the case because they feel similar to Visee’s forming eyes ones.

At the top is Visee’s Glam Nude x Royal Party e/s, and below is from Blossom Eyes.

These were the poorer quality ones by Visee when they were trying to be innovative and putting a brush on one end.  I’m so glad they stopped doing that because it was horrible!

As you can see, the seams split apart because the sponge tip was too floppy and moved around the plastic when I was wiping it.

I used Bare Escentual’s quick change brush cleaner to do all my cleaning.

I was too lazy to wash them with water.  Shall do it next time ahaha

This quick change brush cleaner has a purpose of doing a quick clean for your brushes so that you can use many colours with the same brush.

  • Really does do a quick clean, it can clean waterproof eyeliner off the brush too
  • Relatively cheap, $17AUD from Strawberrynet
  • generous size – 110mL
  • hygienic bottle
  • I choose this to clean my sponge tip applicators
  • Very strong scent
  • Have to spray at least 4 sprays onto cloth before you can start cleaning your brushes
  • Can actually use up a lot of product by the end of all that cleaning
  • Does leave some residue, so still need to actually wash the brushes after a few quick cleans
  • Not really that quick drying
At the end of the day, I don’t know if I would repurchase.  I wouldn’t say I definitely won’t but I would need to try other products first.
And to end my super long post,
I bought all this lace from a craft shop at Greenslopes.  So many pretty laces – I need to put my mind in creative mode again and turn this into jewellery.
This could take a while… lol…

Jill Stuart

January 27, 2011 Leave a comment

To continue on from last time, Jill Stuart shall be the topic today.

I feel so bad every time I look at this eyeshadow.

I had originally been looking for the limited edition 101 Smoky Quartz, but it was already sold out in Taiwan.  Vivian ended up buying Layered Gem not knowing I had it already, and had to go all the way back to help me exchange it >< I felt so bad but so grateful she went out of her way.  Thanks so much!!

To be honest, 01 Crystal Ruby wasn’t something I was too keen for.

I thought that my Esprique Precious Dress On Shiny Eyes in C2 was all I needed for my reds.

The lighter two colours have obvious gold glitters,

While the darker two have fine shimmers.

It’s so easy to look cheap (as my sis says “so chicken” in chinese) with this palette, but with a light hand and careful application, it turns into a really sweet, feminine pinky purple.

Again, I would apply this over the JS jelly eyes as it doesn’t show up that nicely without it.

On top, I have JS 01, on the bottom I have Esprique Precious C2

The darkest colour of EP has a brownish tone to it.  The middle red of C2 is also lighter than that of JS as well, so I’m happy they have clear differences 🙂

The next 2 items were purchased by my good friend Celeste ^^

I decided I would take the plunge and try the messy Blush Blossom

Such a cute case.  I can’t help but feel like Sailor Moon when i look at it.

LOL!  Anyway…

The brush is not connected to the case anymore.

It’s apparently softer than that of Mix Blush.  I can’t tell because this is my first JS blush.

Pretty soft and does the job IMO.

Blush Blossom in 02 Sweet Mum

I can tell you this much – This is NOT a blush to use on the go.

Once I  lightly tap the brush on the mesh, I tap off the excess, and then lightly brush it over my cheeks.

Despite the hassle, I still love it!  Such a pretty flush it gives to the cheeks.

I chose 02 Sweet Mum because there were two completely different colours.

The apricot colour is more shimmery, while light pink has a pearly look.

Both of them go well together or on their own, without looking like disco ball cheeks.

Jelly Eyes in 02 Gold Light

I finally decided to get it, because I couldn’t stand not having a gold base anymore.

It’s so prettyyyy 🙂 It goes well under Lunasol Ocean Scene and JS palettes.

02 Gold Light, 09 Midnight Shine, 03 Platinum Satin, 10 Vintage Decor

And that completes my desired Jelly Eye collection.  Don’t think I’ll get anymore.

Strawberrynet and others :)

September 22, 2010 4 comments

This is quite delayed because my camera’s SD card decided to crack in half and die on me.  I also tried using my parent’s point ‘n shoot but the photos were so terrible I gave up.  Here I was thinking my current Lumix point ‘n shoot was crap…

Nevertheless, I still managed to pull off something LOLS.

Delivery was very prompt and it’s the first time I have received my products in a box.  I like 🙂 Everything was wrapped up nicely too 🙂

This was the main reason for my purchase – the BF has become all high end and decided the only thing good for his skin was this product he tried at his friend’s place in Sydney.

So now he officially uses better skincare than me! LOL oh wells so far so good.  It really does help with oil control while moisturizing at the same time.

These are the stuff I bought for myself 🙂

The Balms Balms Away Eye Make up break up

Really wanted to try this because I was getting sick of using my current Garnier and Loreal two layer removers.

When I bought this I was hoping for something that will save me from rubbing back and forth with a cotton pad.  This literally feels like vaseline but claims to have vitamins that help moisturize and protect the eyes.  My eyes do feel nice after I use it and it removes my waterproof eyeliner and mascara with the 30 second eye massage 🙂

The other reason I bought this was because other reviews say it gives you a bang for your buck.  The hole in the above picture was made over 3 weeks but I shall see how long this lasts me.

What I don’t like is the wiping off process.  I usually use a cotton pad instead of the recommended tissues to wipe it off.  I have to wipe around the lash line repeatedly to get it all off, though it does eventually all come off.  That sort of counteracts the soothing properties this remover claims to provide.  Though I do believe that trial and error has made it increasingly easier.

I lose a couple of eyelashes along the way but I’m not sure if that’s because of the Rapidlash I am trying out atm (it is typical to malt for the first few weeks while the eyelashes restore themselves – review coming later :)). I think it could be the Rapidlash because I can see that the make up remover actually nourishes my eyelashes.  Shall see.

Bare Escentuals Prime Time eye primer

It offers 1.5mL/0.05fl oz for $22AUD, while TFSI offers 11g/0.35fl oz for $35AUD.  WTF 1.5 measley mL?!?!?!? HUGE unhappy face 😦

Whatever.  Since Fuzkittie loves it and rates it higher than TFSI, I bit my lip and bought it.

The twist tube it comes in is a very nice sturdy design.  One question.  What happens to all that product stuck IN the actual tube once it runs out? BAH! There goes more money down the drain.  I say fail packaging! FAILLLL!! I wish it would come in a squeeze tube instead with more.  At least humour me with even 5 or even 3mL…  I don’t even want to use it because I’m scared it would run out =.=

Anyway, to the upside – The consistency is actually drier than TFSI and you can clearly tell that it has no silicon properties in it unlike TFSI.  Well all the better because I never wanted silicon in my eye primer anyway.  One tick from me already.  It smooths on nicely with a small amount despite the dry consistency.  Another tick 🙂 (Freaken better considering how little they give us in the first place..)

I decided to put it to the test with my Jill Stuart palette.  Jill Stuart.. ahh the luxurious brand.  Has anyone ever mentioned – Your fall out is bad.  You fade faster than my Visee and even Lavshuca palettes.  You turn frosty and dull with glitter chunks easily.  What the heck.  Your range contains WAY too many pink palettes. Yawn.  And even after all that, I still really really want to buy more, if only there were some non-pink palettes..

Anyway to my surprise, fall out was little to none, and the colour stayed vibrant without creasing all day.  I got that really nice shimmering glossy feeling I always wanted from my Jill Stuart palette- not the dull faded look I was getting way too often.  I’m in love 🙂  Also, I had minimal smudging around my problem left eye corner too 😀

I think I will have to buy this again when I run out.  But I really really REALLY hate how it’s such a rip off.

Gosh Pearl Shine Lipstick in Starlet 607#

This came free with the purchase

A bit darker than I thought it would be.  It’s quite moisturizing and doesn’t dry out the lips.

It has an underlying cheap cosmetic scent, but also a sweet candy smell too.  It doesn’t bother me too much though.

I went to a discount perfume/cosmetic store a while back and saw Stila products!!  The E/S palette was only $12 AUD!!  I also got a Stila double ended eyeshadow brush for $8 😀

Stila in Marrakesh.  Isn’t the packaging adorable ^^

I had a really hard time trying to get a good shot of the colours, but my camera just was going psycho and wouldn’t let me.  It was only for this palette too.. I think it could be because of the silver packaging.

One under natural light, and you can see the shimmers better in the second pic.  The colours are still pretty true.

Swatch.  Pretty neutral pink palette 🙂 Awesome for Summer!

The two middle colours actually look pretty similar, but the third colour from left allows for some subtle contouring.  Totally loving the dark brown with red shimmers!  Actually this looks pretty similar to Visee’s Forming eyes in A-1.

Above: Stila ; Below: Visee

Pretty similar aren’t they? Except Stila has a more metallic finish while Visee has a shimmery bling finish.

Visee’s pink is also deeper and more vibrant.

Stila’s brown has a more reddish tint, while Visee has more chocolate brown tones.  I still thought Visee’s dark brown was quite reddish though.  But that’s alright, it’s good that these two aren’t completely the same 🙂

I also took advantage of Priceline’s sale 2-3 weeks ago and bought myself two mascaras.  I know I know.. I said I would end my mascara shopping but They were half price!

Maybelline Pulse Perfection’s brush.

I actually like this mascara.  It separates well and I find myself reaching for this one now.  I think it is mediocre in lengthening and voluming.  Just a good daily mascara.

MaxFactor False Lash Effect’s brush.  Very fat brush with short bristles.  Good combination.

I was a bit disappointed with this one.  The formula I think is a bit rubbery?  It does build length and volume, but I found the brush hard to work with and a bit difficult to get the mascara onto my eyelashes.  What I found surprising was that it didn’t really help with keeping the eyelashes neat – something I thought would happen with short bristles.  I find myself not reaching for this mascara all the time.

Lastly, I finally decided to re-organise my make up using the drawers my mum bought from Aldi XD Good old Aldi ehehehe

It’s so neat but I wish it was a bit longer or something.  It only just accomodates for the E/S.  I’m sure I can find a way to rearrange it to fit more though 😀

New stuff ^^

August 4, 2010 Leave a comment

My Bobodave stuff finally arrived after 2.5 weeks.  I have my reserves about ordering from there again.. takes so long even though its just registered post!  Not to mention they stopped their free shipping offer.. so sad..

I got my hands on some more Jill Stuart Jelly Eyes.  So damn pretty 😀

03 Platinum Satin

I don’t really know what I was expecting, maybe more beige than pink.  This is definitely more pink than beige.  I’m even thinking maybe I should have listened to Celeste and gotten the 02 Gold light instead.  Nevertheless, when it is spread over the eyelids it becomes skin colour and has heaps of pretty silver glitters.  Great as base 😀

09 Midnight Shine

Sooooo pigmented and soooo pretty.  It has multicoloured glitter and is a really deep blue.  When it is spread over the eyelids lightly it has a greyish tinge but when layered its a deep blue.  SO freaken pretty!

Swatch away from light.  03 is a bit harder to see because of the shadow, but you can see how it is skin colour like.

Swatch in light.  Really doesn’t do justice for the pretty glitters. 03 Looks metallic in the pic but is actually really shimmery instead in real life.

On the down side I lost my favourite daily Kiss Me Heroine Make eyeliner at work the other day.. It was really new and I can’t be bothered to buy it online again either.. depressed.. T.T

Shopaholic much? (picture heavy)

June 27, 2010 Leave a comment

Just received my parcel from facial-shop the other day!  So exciting 😀 Delivery was very prompt, and the owner (?) Vivian was very nice and helpful when answering my questions.  Only thing is it is not the cheapest but you don’t have to pay shipping fee 🙂

I got free Orbis E/S samples and an extra Aube blush for $6USD

Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Colour in 10 Vintage Decor

It’s sooooo shimmery and bling I love it so much!! Consistency is literally like jelly and has the typical Jill Stuart floral smell.  I think I have grown accustomed to it hehe

Colour away from the light reflection.  It’s more of a taupey brown on the eyes.  Lasts a whole day! love love love!! Going to get some other colours later ^^

Visee Blackish Forming Eyes B2

Was choosing between Brilliance Forming in A3 and this, but got swayed by my sis to get this instead XD Ended up getting one each

A nice orangey brown palette.  I was worried the highlighter shade would turn out too silver but it’s great.  The palette overall is more shimmery than B1 too ^^

Thought I would do a quick colour comparison between B1 and B2.
All the colours have a  pretty obvious difference apart from the darker shades (bottom right in each palette).
B2 is slightly lighter and is a more obvious brown as opposed B1 which is more blackish brown with shimmers.
Both give a very different look, so I’m happy to have both ^^
What I LOVE about Visee palettes is that they co-ordinate the shimmers perfectly with the colour.  It’s so elegant and wearable hehehe then again most jap brands do that anyway

Esprique Precious Dress On Shiny Eyes C2

I really wanted a pinky red palette as this is what I have least of, and really liked the look fuzkittie made on her blog ^^

Nice pigmentation and exactly what I wanted ^^  The cream colour is very greasy with fine shimmer but I would be very reluctant to use it anywhere apart from the brow bone.

Kate Gel Liner BR-1

Was a bit disappointed when I got this because it looked like customs opened it, and may not have closed to lid straight away so it felt a bit dry.  However, after I got rid of the top layer it was nice and soft ^^

Shimmery brown, lasts the whole day, good for day time when you don’t want to have too harsh a dark line, but still want good definition 🙂

“Gift” for extra $6USD for purchase over $100USD:  Aube Chiffon Touch Cheek in RS803

Looks dark, but it actually shows up light and gives the cheek a nice little tint.  Exactly what I wanted!

Bit hard to see but you can’t see a little bit of the pinky tint on the left side of my hand as opposed to the right.  Highlighter is in the middle

Comes with some instructions completely in Japanese so can’t really understand it lol Luckily it’s got pictures ahaha

Orbis E/S samples

Vivian was very nice to add this in as well as I wanted to see whether these were any good.  Loose eyeshadow- 3 colour gradation vertically: blue, green, purple, pink and brown

Decided to press the eyeshadow because it would last longer and more convenient to use
Pressed it with Isocol, and the pigments where not compromised, although pressing with Isocol does not work with all types of loose E/S on the market

Swatches are pretty random.  First darkest colour is not from the sample.  I think the top colours are from the bottom row.  Nevertheless, the shadows are not very pigmented and slightly shimmery.

Happy ^^

Long make up post

May 12, 2010 7 comments

As promised, a very delayed update ahahaha… I’m so lazy.  But this will be quite a long one..

My sis got back from her holiday a little while ago and she bought me some goodies!!! So happy!!

I got some more Sasatinnie mascara and a Kiss Me Heroine Make eyeliner pen (best eyeliner in my opinion, no smudge even with no base and easy to remove).

I received my first Jill Stuart palette!!! This was from the Illuminance eyes range in Layered Gem 07

This palette was probably one of the more boring but safer colour combos.  The middle two colours look like a pink brown combo, but it actually shows up a more pinky purply, not sure why.

  • Really pretty and sturdy package
  • Very shimmery, very bling
  • Fun to play around with the colours.  The colours look light, but actually make a nice smokey look.  Can mix and match with other E/S to give a different finish
  • Silky smooth texture

  • Not sure if this is a con, but it has this flowery scent.  Some would say it is pleasant, but to me it steers more towards the powerful side.
  • Fallouts, a lot
  • Not 100% convinced, I definitely don’t love it. The colours didn’t really pop like I expected them to.  Nevertheless, I love using it for mix and matching, it’s so bling!

Will I buy again? I think I would, but only if they came in more interesting colours.  I only have my eyes on the Crystal Ruby palette from the newest range for now.

The Skin Shop BB cream SPF37 PA+++ 50g

My sister picked this out for me.  Such a good pick!

  • Great neutral colour match
  • Creamy consistency, easy to blend
  • Sheer-medium coverage (I think it has potential to build coverage)
  • Dries to matte finish
  • No skin irritation
  • Does not smudge off easily, quite waterproof as well.  I washed my hands with detergent and it stayed put.
  • No smell
  • Great package.  Looks so similar to Skin79 super BB cream ahhaah but I think this better, no greyness.
  • SPF 37 PA+++ I love sun protection 🙂

My sis found these Hair poofer velcro things.  They came in a pack of three.

You’re supposed to be able to just stick these things in your hair and just walk out the house with it still in there.  I’m not daring enough ahah.. I did do it once when I forgot about it, and by the time I remembered I was at the shopping centre so I couldn’t exactly pull it out lol.  No one noticed though 🙂 I use it like normal rollers now.

Sana Covercom Powder SPF 50+ PA+++ all those ++++++’s!!

Finally collected my face powder from Joey.  I was so late in getting it from her >< But it was good to catch up when we did, while at Buddha Fest!!

The lighting is a bit dark so this is not their true colour.  I put the Covercom next to my Bihadashi, both in the lightest colour they come in (light beige).  They look the same, feel similar, coverage is around the same.  I think what stands out to me is Covercom’s puff! It’s so puffy!!! Love it 😀 and all those ++++’s!! I’m sold lol

Today’s mini haul.  Cheapest haul ever!!!!

Nak dry shampoo.  This is Australian made 🙂

Ricky was reading some blogs and came across dry shampoo so he suggested it to me.  The girl wrote that it gives hair texture.  I tried it, and it relaxes my hair, but doesn’t add texture ahah.. It feels softer afterwards and actually feel refreshed too 🙂 Maybe I need to have dirtier hair for it to add texture.  It sprays on as a powder and you brush it out after waiting for 2 minutes.  Smells good too.  On the exi side though – AUD$19.95.  Ricky, there is no such thing as a cheap deal in Australia.. the cheapest one there was still $15 😦

EVAS Elevee BB cream SPF36 PA++ 50g

You can’t really see the blending.  But it actually does provide some coverage, just not sure why it didn’t show up.

I was walking past Elizabeth Arcade today and saw a new Korean shop open!! I had to go in and take a look.  It’s mostly accessories but at the back I saw these BB creams and skin products.  Thought it would be at least AUD$40 but OMG this was only $5.95 after a 10% discount!  I had to get it O.o

  • Creamy
  • Good neutral colour match, similar to TSS, no greyness
  • Not waterproof, washed off easily with detergent
  • Sheer coverage, buildable
  • Although it’s creamy, it doesn’t seem to blend that well.  You have to be careful when applying because it can get flaky
  • Still need to see if it will irritate my skin.  I don’t have much hopes for this BB cream since it was so freaken cheap!! But it’s a bonus if it gives me a good outcome 😀
  • Dries matte, but feels more moisturizing than TSS.

Castledew Over Setting Gloss in colour 9

Got this as well for only AUD$5.85 after 10% discount!  So freaken cheap!!!! They didn’t even try to rip the Aussies off with cheap Korean products!!  Tempted to buy more colours before they decide to raise the prices eheheheh…

I still don’t know what colour suits me.  This is a bright pinky orangey red.  Shows up darker on my lips with a red tinge.  I still don’t know whether I suit lighter, orangey or pinky tones.  I guess, I can only experiment to know!! BUAHAHAHAHAHAHA  This stuff smells nice and fruity too 😀

I am quite happy with my very cheap splurge.  I feel satisfied, without any guilt!  I love cheap finds! AHAHAHAHAHA
